The Marsabit business community has called for the Marsabit County Government, the National Government and other stakeholders to compensate traders who lost their property after the inferno that consumed a section of Marsabit old market destroying property of unknown value.
Addressing media at the market, the chairman of Marsabit Business Community, Mr. Jack Elisha said that they are assessing the damage caused by the fire before they can give the exact value of the property consumed by the inferno.
He has also urged the county government to acquire a firefighter gear and setup firefighting department will intervene if such kind of disasters occurs in future.
He lamented that it is sad that for the last few months, the county has witnessed 5 fire disasters without the intervention from the firefighting department.
Marsabit County Deputy Governor, Solomon Gubo said that the county government is planning to setup a firefighting station at a cost of 80 million shillings.
According to him, despite the current financial challenges, the county government has already set aside 20 million shillings for setting up county fire station next KCB bank.
