689 Bright and needy students from various part of Marsabit county have benefited from County Scholarship after waiting for long.
Marsabit County Governor Ukur Yattani officially launched the funding in Marsabit Stadium in a colorful ceremony attended by parents, County and National government officials.
“This funding will go direct to the education of the most needy students so as the county will get professional in various key sectors to be bridge the gap” Says Ukur.
100 students among 689 got a full scholarship for the whole period of their study while 589 other others got partial payments of tuition fees.
Students from four Sub Counties;(Laisamis, Moyale, Saku and North-Horr) of Marsabit as per wards within Marsabit are as follow: Loiyangani (20),Laisamis (20),Korr/Ngurnit(20),Loglogo(11),Kargi(19); Sololo (23),Uran(18),Obbu (8),Golbo(28),Moyale Township (66),Butiye(35), Heillu(5); Marsabit Township (94),Karare(25),Jaldesa(63); Turbi (39),North-Horr (34),Maikona (45),Dukana(28) and Illeret (18).
Through the County assembly Ksh. 43,650,000 were allocated to county scholarship fund to be given to most needy and brilliants students who will pursue key course and come back and work in the county.
The chairs of the scholarship fund Mr Daballen affirmed the process of identifying and giving out the funds was done through CRA Formula to enhance equality and fairness for people of Marsabit County.
In his speech he said the funding was just launched in a right time when the region is experiencing drought and thousands of livestock were swept away by drought.
Breakdown of beneficiaries as per focus areas of studies Animals health 34,Education(Primary Option)103,Education(Secondary Option)181,Clinical Medicine 65,Nursing 105,Medical Surgery,57,Law 17,Engineering 77,Artisans 12.
“We will double the funding this financial year to reach all other needy students in various parts of this county” Say’s Governor Ukur.
The main objective of the Scholarship Fund is to bridge the gap in critical profession like teaching, Petroleum and Energy, Medical, Engineering, Hydrology and Geology.
