Tell a Friend

There are two major reasons for you to visit Maasai Mara, One to see the Big five in Kenya and two to witness the spectacular wildest migration from Serengeti to Masai Mara from July to August.

It was the second day in Mara and we were excited to go for another game drive. During day two we had two options on safari. We can carry a packed lunch and go for a full day safari or go for morning drive come back for lunch and go for afternoon safari. Since we wanted to have a rest some time during the day we opted to go for morning safari and come back for lunch at midday. Our day two safari was another memorable moment; it was our opportunity to see hippos out of water during the day. I have seen hippos previously in Naivasha and Lake Baringo but only during night while they graze or submerged in the water. We bumped into a hippo that had probably forgotten to return into the water before day break. It was so scared and the loud roar of our engine made it confused. It was running all-over the place looking for somewhere to hide or maybe look for where the Mara river was. We cooled our engine to save the hippo from the noise. I felt a flash of happiness and at the same time I felt sorry for the poor animal.

The day was awesome since we saw several bird species including African Fish Eagle, Black Headed Heron, Grey Crowned crane, Pelicans, Kori bustard, ostrich among many other species.

On our way back to the hotel for lunch we came across a lone elephant grazing majestically some metres from the road. The animals was so enormous, it looks like a massive black rock. The reserve also has its fair share of endangered Black Rhinos, Cheetahs, Spotted Hyena, and Giraffes, Buffalos both Thomson and Grant Gazelles among other animals.Game drive at Maasai Mara

Our second day ended with an afternoon drive which gave us good moments to watch zebras and buffalos grazing alongside gazelles and some impalas. It is a good view when the sun is cool and the sky is clear.

During the third day which was also our last day in Masai Mara we went for a hot air Balloon view of Mara ecosystem. It was three well spent days in Mara and I am looking forward to going back again.
