Kenya’s First Lady Margaret Kenyatta visited North Horr in Marsabit County yesterday to empathize with affected families.
She was received by Marsabit County Governor Amb.Ukur Yattani and North Horr Mp Chachu Ganya in North Horr.
In her tour she was accompanied by Kenya Cross Secretary General Abass Guleid to kick-start disbursement of cash transfer and animal off-take program targeting families greatly stricken by drought in the region.
Addressing members of the public in North Horr Baraza Park Her Excellency affirm that the Kenya’s government will do its best to save lives and livelihoods in the regions hit hard by drought.
“Today is difficult, it’s difficult seeing how far the drought has spread and to see the hardship of the families hit hard by the drought, may be it can’t be compared to actual threat faced by millions across this country, mothers and children being most affected.”  She said.
Her Excellency visited North Health Centre where she met breast-feeding mothers and donated Mama Kits donated by Marsabit County Government in partnership with UNICEF.
Through her Beyond Zero Campaign she donated Beyond Zero Mobile Clinical to North Horr and also flagged-off trucks of relief food.
Her Excellency also praised Kenya Red Cross for their efforts in fighting drought using innovative means like Mobile Cash Transfer through Mpesa.
Marsabit County Governor Ukur Yattani thanked her Excellency First Lady Margaret Kenyatta for visting North Horr and other partners for their support to Kenya Red Cross in their drought response campaigns.
