A 3-year-old girl was shot and killed while 7 others were wounded earlier today when armed bandits attacked Isiolo herders at Quri village in Garbatula sub-county.

Those seriously injured including the child’s mother, were taken to Isiolo referral hospital where they are currently admitted.

According to Garbatula Deputy County Commissioner Victor Kamonde, the baby was on mother’s back when she was shot dead while the mother was also shot in her chest and wounded critically.

The attackers reportedly crossed over from neighbouring Garissa County to steal cattle.

Mr Kamonde said the bandits crossed over from the neighbouring Lagdera constituency in Garissa county with aim of causing violence and stealing cattle.

He said police officers have been deployed to the volatile area and assured herders that security will be beefed up.

Isiolo South MP hon. Abdi Koropu Tepo expressed shock and sadness at the horrific killing of innocent child and vowed to take the matter to parliament for redress.

“I condemn in the strongest terms possible this despicable act against innocent Isiolo South residents and will seek answers from our security agencies and in the National Assembly in the next few days.” hon. Tepo said.

Isiolo County Woman Rep. Rehema Jaldesa, while condoling with the family, criticised the government for “selective disarmament of National Police Reservists” in the county.

She said reservists at Lagdera in Garissa still have firearms while those from Isiolo were disarmed.
