Ushanga Kenya Initiative steering committee has today visited Marsabit County to introduce aimed to empower women in the region.
A team of Ushanga Kenya Initiative today visited Marsabit County on aim to empower women in beads making sector through intergovernmental partnership.
The steering committee from Ushanga Kenya Initiative met with Marsabit County Deputy Governor Solomon Gubo in his office and later had a boardroom engagement with other County staff from tourism and culture department.
Ushanga Kenya Initiative is a National Government program in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism and since its inception
the initiative has extended to seven target counties of Marsabit, Samburu, Kajiado, Narok , Baringo, Turkana and West Pokot.
The Initiative also seeks to strengthen business and production capacity for women, as well as improve their competitiveness of bead products in local, regional and international markets for sustainable livelihoods.
Speaking during the visit of the steering committee, chairperson Mrs. Hellen Nkaiserry said that the Ushanga Kenya Initiative targets women and making them self-reliance in society.
“Today we are here to give our support in expanding the idea and through you the committee you formed and your deputy governor chairs on same committee, I know you reach grassroot to all wards and support women in this sector” Said Mrs Nkaissery.
On his side Marsabit deputy governor Solomon Gubo promised to support the initiative fully through strengthening business and production capacity for women and further said that the government will create beads markets(Curio Shops) and they will assist women groups to form cooperatives in ward level since support will reach them in a effectively.
The project was inaugurated by Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala and it is incubated under the Office of the Deputy President on 27th November 2017 and its aimed at empowering women through job creation to transform the living standards of the women from pastoralist communities.
Ushanga Kenya Initiative will help create market by list and describe target or niche markets and promotional strategies.
