PICTURE: Youths keenly following speech from mentors at Gof Hotel, Marsabit Town
MARSABIT, February 16th 2018-The Marsabit County office of the governor in collaboration with department of youth’s affair today conducted a day mentorship forum for youths.
Over 100 youths from all over Marsabit County gathered in Gof hotel with guidance of mentors from eMentoring Africa to discuss daily challenges youths are facing in Marsabit County.
Speaking during the forum Fatuma Jillo Chief Officer in charge of youth’s affairs openly urged the youths to come forward and give them ideas on how to empower them to achieve their dreams.
Among many issues highlighted by youths is high number of unemployed youths, drugs and substance abuse and 30% allocation for youths in procurement of contracts.
The team of youth ambassadors were urged to encourage their kin’s that are at home to aggressively look for opportunities available such as computer literacy course and free scholarship for polytechnics across the county.
Sagante-Jaldessa MCA Stephen Katelo graced the occasion and promised youths of Marsabit that he will be their ambassador inside the county assembly until youths agenda is properly addressed and further asked them to actively participate in community issue like public participation.
Through the department intervention several youths are now engaged in various projects like tree planting in Kofia Mbaya and Hulahula as way to empower them.
