MARSABIT, February 15th 2018-Marsabit county former governor Amb.Ukur Yattani declared his wealth after 25 years in civil service, according to financial disclosure forms filed before the vetting committee earlier last week.
The National Assembly report on the net worth of new crop of Cabinet Secretaries has revealed that incoming labour and social services CS Amb.Ukur Yattani was ranked 3rd among the eight Cabinet Secretary nominees with a net worth of Ksh 295million.
After losing his bid for reelection in highly contested gubernatorial seat, Ukur was nominated by president Uhuru Kenyatta having worked closely with him during the campaign period and his appointed attracted heated emotions from Marsabit County leaders.
In his declaration form Ukur Yattani, said that the source of his wealth is investments in real estate, transport, movable assets and livestock.
In a period when there is so much discussion going on in the country in terms of corruption and politics its signifant for leaders to openly declare their wealth as a moral and ethical parameter to check their suitable for the any public position.
However, given the asset classes declared; with no liquid assets mentioned, this remains a clear case of capital gains declarations. Indeed, this makes the millionaire CS nominees nothing more than Panama papers as the declared wealth can only be gained after the sale of the assets.
According to the constitution the vetting report is set to be discussed in a plenary after which those whose nominations will be approved by the house will be forwarded to the president for appointment.
