26/01/2018-Tension is high at Korr area in Laisamis, Marsabit County, following clashes between two rival rendille clans in the area.
The renewed inter-communal clashes pitting two feuding rendille clans have historically resulted from ancient cultural practice of capturing a aget-set leaders(DabKabir) in order to initiate a new age group.
On mashujaa day celebrations Laisamis member of parliament Marcelino Arbele raised an alarm on the emerging conflict as the man-hunt cultural practice set to begin.
“I want to take this early opportunity to condemn in the strongest terms possible and I urge religious leaders to join hands and visit rendille land and preach peace” Said Mp Arbele.
Tension still lingers in the area with reports suggesting groups were gathering in small groups to attack each other in what look like revenge.
The middle-aged man victim of the inter-clan violence who was attacked earlier today by unknown group men and he was seriously injured is now receiving treatment at Marsabit County Refferal Hospital.
The cultural practice is common among rendille and samburu tribe and its perceived differently since its prestigious practice in Samburu culture unlike rendille where inter-clan violence is generated.
A contingent of Kenya police reservists have already been deployed to patrol the area and to offer security to residents.
