Marsabit Inter-Faith Council today held  peace and prayer gathering at St.Stephen Center in Marsabit town following recent killings in the region.

This comes as thousands of residents face huge challenges due to biting drought and armed conflict being witnessed among pastoral communities.

They clerics expressed concern over insecurity and hunger and called on the pastoralists to shun conflict and co-exist peacefully.

“When we continue to shed innocent blood,our God also cries among us,eventually crisis e.g drought worsen.” Says Bishop Kihara of Marsabit Catholic Diocese.

They petitioned politicians to carry out peaceful campaigns ahead of the August general elections.

Under the umbrella of Marsabit County clerics Network, the leaders called on the Marsabit residents to shun hostilities.

The leaders observed that insecurity has derailed development and said that there is need for political and religious leaders from the warring communities to preach unity.

AVOID CHAOS

They cautioned politicians to desist from incitement, hate speech and uttering inflammatory statements that could plunge the county into chaos.

Led by Anglican Church Bishop Qampicha Daniel and Sheikh Nur of Jamia Mosque, the clerics promised to preach peace and urged citizens to root out bad leadership and corruption in the county
